2008 AMC Engineer of the Year Selected
Mark E. Mahaffey

Mark E. Mahaffey, a mechanical engineer assigned to ARL's Survivability/Lethality Analysis Directorate at Aberdeen Proving Ground, was named the AMC Engineer of the Year for 2008 at the National Society of Professional Engineers' awards ceremony on 21 February.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Mahaffey is a DoD subject matter expert in combat system survivability and vulnerability reduction. For the past three years, Mahaffey has conducted and managed the damage assessments for live fire testing of Army combat systems being used in Iraq and Afghanistan, analyzed the data, and provided recommendations on survivability enhancement and vulnerability reduction.

His recommended design changes have resulted in improved survivability against Improvised Explosive Device threats. Mahaffey also oversees a team of ten engineers who conduct engineering analyses of all Army combat systems and munitions.

Capt. Anthony Todd Zimmer, Ph.D., P.E., C.I.H., the Environmental Protection Agency's nominee, was selected as the 2008 Federal Engineer of the Year.
