Intern Program

Interns are the lifeblood of the DA E&S (NC) workforce, bringing new talent and energy to Army research, development, engineering, and acquisition. Engineering and science interns receive a full range of educational, training, and developmental opportunities leading to advanced competencies, allowing rapid advancement to the journeyman level, and that provide a strong foundation for future professional growth and promotion. The length and type of training for the intern depend on the area of specialization and the specific Army mission performed. Typically, the intern program lasts from 18 to 24 months.

Interns are recruited by major Army commands and are assigned to the DA Student Detachment. Salaries and travel expenses are centrally funded. Army interns may also be hired by local Army activities and supported by locally funded intern programs.

The Army is now exploring new ways to recruit interns. A significant proposal is to centralize recruitment, with one Army personnel agency having recruitment responsibility for all interns for all Army commands.

Additionally, DA has initiated a three-year pilot program -- Career Related Experience in Science and Technology (CREST) -- which recruits undergraduate and graduate students as future Army interns. CREST provides these students with summer and/or part-time employment where they undertake meaningful engineering and scientific projects in their disciplines. After graduation, CREST participants have the opportunity to become ACTEDS interns.

To find out more about the intern program and how it can benefit you, use the points of contact for the CREST program, found here. You may also contact the AMC Recruiting Office at (800) 223-7280.
