The Army Materiel Command’s Red River, Letterkenny, and Tobyhanna depots have won six 2008 Shingo Pubic Sector Awards for Excellence in Manufacturing for achievement in implementing lean systems in support of equipment manufacture, repair, overhaul, and maintenance. This year’s Shingo Prize winners from AMC are:

- Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA – Biological Integrated Detection System (BIDS)
- Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, TX – Patriot Missile
- Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, TX – Trailers
- Tobyhanna Army Depot, Tobyhanna, PA – AN/ASM-189 Maintenance Electronic Shop Van
- Tobyhanna Army Depot, Tobyhanna, PA – AN/TYQ-23 Tactical Air Operations Module.
Established in 1988, the Shingo Prize is administered by Utah State University and has been referred to by Business Week magazine as the "Nobel prize of manufacturing." Criteria include customer satisfaction, quality, cost and delivery, lean core operations, and leadership and employee empowerment.
