Simulation and Training Technology Center (STTC)

The Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Simulation and Training Technology Center located in Orlando, FL was named after Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith a Floridian and Combat Engineer Sapper with the 11th Engineer Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country by performing heroic actions during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The STTC mission is to enhance Warfighter readiness through the research and development of applied simulation technologies for learning, training, testing, and mission rehearsal. An additional focus area is providing the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security with state-of-the-art applied research and development of simulation technologies in such areas as human, agent, and teams, in a system of systems environment. The goal of the Center is to transition its technologies to the Warfighter, the defense community, and our allies in the shortest possible time.

To achieve this mission, the STTC established six strategic goals:

Goal 1:  Focus on key competencies including Real-Time Human-in-the-Loop Simulation Technologies; Behavioral Representation; Shared Simulation Environments; and Partnering.

Goal 2:  Support Training Transformation (T2) in areas such as Joint Knowledge Development and Distribution Capability; Joint National Training Capability; and Joint Assessment and Enabling Capability.

Goal 3:  State-of-the-art Facility – To provide the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security with state-of-the-art applied research and development of simulation technologies for knowledge and understanding human, agent, and teams in a system of systems environment.  To be a national leader, the Center is constantly improving by drawing on the talent, facilities, and experience of its Partners.

Goal 4:  Promote the learning and growth of simulationists to enhance the STTC’s ability to support the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.

Goal 5:  Optimize the financial resources provided by the Army and our Partners.

Goal 6:  Develop and maintain processes to support the most efficient and effective use of resources to provide the Warfighter with the solutions necessary to do their mission.
